The Art of Redirecting Behavior – In-person
July 18, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EDT$25
Have you ever seen an adult trying to calmly explain “why” you can’t ______ to their 2 year old whom, you know, is about to have a full blown tantrum? Have you witnessed situations where you felt the meltdown/fights/whine could have been avoided? If so, you probably already practice redirection.
Redirecting Behavior is a proactive guiding strategy that a caregiver can use to anticipate a child’s challenging behavior and try to prevent it before it continues or escalates into a problem. We will tap into four types of redirecting practices and dive into scenarios we often come across in our daily lives as caregivers. Nannies who master the Art of Redirecting Behavior are the real Ninja Nannies.
BENEFITS OF REDIRECTING
- Minimizes attention to challenging behavior
- Minimizes negative responses
- Maximizes learning
- Provides a clear description of the behavior expected from the child
- Provides positive attention or access to desired object or activity as soon as the child is again engaged in appropriate behavior.
